Pharmaceuticals are a great undertaking related to human life and health, and the pharmaceutical industry is internationally recognized as a "evergreen sunrise industry ." The overall development trend of the pharmaceutical industry is very clear. Population aging, urbanization, increased health awareness, and the continuous expansion of disease spectrum will all promote the sustained growth of pharmaceutical demand.The birth of a drug embodies the wisdom and efforts of countless scientific research and production personnel, possesses enormous economic and social benefits, safeguards human health, and promotes the evolution of life.

The task of Pharmaceutical Preparations is to make drugs into safe, effective, and stable dosage forms suitable for clinical application through specific processes, endowing pharmaceutical products with the functions for disease diagnosis, prevention, and treatments that benefit the people, and enabling batch production of drugs. Our university's Pharmaceutical Preparations major is a comprehensive applied science major oriented towards the national strategy for building a strong pharmaceutical country, with a scientific foundation, engineering features, and a medical perspective. Training Objectives:

This major cultivates high-quality applied talents with a sense of social responsibility, innovative spirit, entrepreneurial awareness and practical ability, who master the basic knowledge, basic theories and basic skills in drugs, pharmaceutics, pharmaceutical preparation engineering and other aspects, and can engage in R&D, production, circulation, management, quality control, technological innovation and application in the fields related to pharmaceutical preparation design and preparation, production, application and preparation technology. Graduates can engage in entrepreneurship, product development, engineering design, teaching and research, scientific management and technical services in scientific research institutes, design institutes, institutions of higher learning, pharmaceutical and related enterprises.

Professional Characteristics and Advantages:

The Pharmaceutical Preparations major began enrolling students in 1992; obtained the right to confer a Master's degree in Biochemical Engineering in 1999; and obtained the right to confer a Master's degree in Pharmaceutical Chemistry in 2013. The disciplinary support of this major includes a doctoral program in Chemical Engineering and Technology (first-level discipline), a master's program in Pharmacy (first-level discipline), and three master's programs in secondary disciplines: Biochemical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Engineering. In 2010, "Pharmaceutical Preparation Equipment and Workshop Process Design" was rated as a Hubei Provincial Excellent Course; it won the first prize of Hubei Provincial Higher Education Teaching Achievements four times consecutively in 2005, 2009, 2013 and 2017, and the second prize in 2022. Guided by the needs of the pharmaceutical industry, this major cultivates senior professional talents who have professional knowledge in pharmacy, pharmaceutical engineering, chemistry and chemical engineering, and can be competent for the design of new pharmaceutical dosage forms and preparations, drug R&D, production management, quality monitoring and clinical preparation guidance. Pharmaceutical preparation is a major in short supply of professional talents in China, and graduates have been in short supply. After more than 30 years of development, compared with the pharmaceutics majors of many schools, the Pharmaceutical Preparation major of our university pays more attention to the combination of students' scientific knowledge and engineering ability, and is deeply favored by employers.

The Pharmaceutical Preparation major has 13 full-time teachers, including 3 "Chutian Scholars" of Hubei Province, 4 doctoral supervisors and 9 master's supervisors. Among the full-time teachers, 61.5% have senior professional titles, 84.6% have doctoral degrees, 100% of professors teach undergraduate courses, and more than 80% have pharmacy or engineering backgrounds. Through the method of "introducing talents from outside and cultivating talents internally", the major has formed a "double-qualified" teaching team with advanced teaching concepts, clear teaching reform goals, reasonable structure, rich teaching experience and strong scientific research ability.

The college actively encourages and organizes students to participate in social practice and technological innovation practice activities. Based on the university's College Students' Practical Innovation Training Center, teachers and students of the Pharmaceutical Preparation major actively participate in various innovation and entrepreneurship and discipline competition activities such as the "Internet +" College Students' Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, the National College Students' Pharmaceutical Engineering Design Competition, the Hubei Provincial College Students' Chemistry (Chemical Engineering) Academic Innovation Achievement Report Meeting, and the National College Students' Mathematical Modeling Competition, and have achieved fruitful results. In the past three years, it has won 4 national awards, 4 provincial awards and 12 university-level awards.

After graduation, students of this major are mainly engaged in research, development, process design, production technology improvement and quality control in the fields related to pharmaceutical preparations and preparation technology. They can undertake work such as pharmaceutical preparation R&D, drug quality management, production process operation, preparation process research, drug R&D, good manufacturing practice (GMP) and drug sales in pharmaceutical and related enterprises. Some graduates choose to further study for master's/doctoral degrees in related disciplines in well-known domestic universities or study abroad in the United States, Japan, Europe and other places. The social demand for this major is strong, and the employment situation is good. The average employment rate of graduates in the past three years has been over 96%, and the postgraduate entrance examination rate has been over 40%.
