Energy is the material basis for the survival and development of human society, and occupies an important strategic position in the national economy. The Energy Chemical Engineering program is an undergraduate program related to the national strategic emerging industries, which will provide important support for the country's "Dual Carbon" strategy. "Carbon neutrality + new energy" based on the energy chemical industry will bring disruptive changes to social development.
This program was selected as a National First-Class Undergraduate Program and awarded the Provincial "Energy Chemical Engineering Teaching Team" in 2021. Its relying discipline, Chemical Engineering and Technology, is the only advantageous discipline in the chemical field in Hubei Province, and three related disciplines including chemistry and engineering are among the top 1% of ESI. It has National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Centers such as the "Large Chemical Industry Engineering Practice Teaching Center" and the "Environmental and Chemical Clean Production Experimental Teaching Center", and has been approved for National First-Class Courses such as "Chemical Reaction Engineering" and Provincial Excellent Quality Resource Sharing Courses such as "Principles of Chemical Engineering". Stable internship bases have been established in large energy enterprises such as Sinopec Jingmen Branch, Changling Branch, Baling Branch and Sino-Korea (Wuhan) Petrochemical Co., Ltd.
Training Objectives and Requirements:
Adhering to moral education, based in Hubei and serving regional economic development, the program aims to cultivate high-quality engineering and technical talents with innovative consciousness, good scientific literacy, strong engineering design ability and market cognition ability, and all-round development of morality, intelligence, physical fitness, aesthetics and labor. Students will systematically master the basic knowledge and skills of chemistry, energy conversion and utilization, master the basic chemical processes of efficient and clean utilization of energy and development of renewable energy, have good foreign language and information acquisition abilities, as well as the spirit of innovation and international perspective. They will be able to engage in scientific research, production design and technical management in fields such as petrochemical engineering, coal chemical engineering, renewable energy utilization, new energy materials and low-carbon energy cleaning, becoming qualified builders and reliable successors of the socialist cause.

6.Faculty Strength:
The program has a teaching and research team with reasonable structure and high comprehensive quality. Currently, there are 21 full-time teachers, all of whom have doctoral degrees, 11 have overseas experience, and 11 are professors and associate professors, including 3 provincial high-level talents. It has been approved as a Provincial Teaching Team for the Energy Chemical Engineering program. In the past five years, teachers of this program have won a number of national and provincial awards, including 1 Second Prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award, 3 Third Prizes of Hubei Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award, 2 First Prizes of Hubei Provincial Higher Education Teaching Achievement Award, 1 First Prize of China Chemical Education Science Research Achievement (University) Award, and 1 Second Prize of National Teaching Achievement Award.

Based on the university's Undergraduate Practice and Innovation Training Center, teachers and students of the Energy Chemical Engineering program actively participate in various practical innovation and competition activities such as the "Challenge Cup" National Undergraduate Extracurricular Academic and Technological Works Competition, National Undergraduate Energy Conservation and Emission Reduction Social Practice and Technology Competition, National Undergraduate Chemical Engineering Design Competition, and Hubei Provincial Undergraduate Chemistry (Chemical Engineering) Academic Innovation Achievement Report Meeting, and have achieved fruitful results. In recent years, teachers and students of this program have won a number of national and provincial awards, including the National Silver Award of the "Creation Youth" China Youth Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, the National Third Prize of the National Undergraduate Energy Conservation and Emission Reduction Social Practice and Technology Competition, the National Third Prize of the National Undergraduate Chemical Engineering Design Competition, and more than 20 first and second prizes in the Hubei Provincial Undergraduate Chemistry (Chemical Engineering) Academic Innovation Achievement Report Meeting.
